The First Post: The Best Intentions

Updated: Feb 6, 2018

For as far back as we can remember, every year around New Year’s there is a lot of buzz about the New Year’s Resolutions. Often resolutions are around weight loss and physical fitness . Gym memberships rise. Stationary bikes reach peak sales for the year. Others make resolutions connected to financial goals, such as getting out of debt or saving more. It seems many people have grand plans for how to make THIS year the greatest year in their entire life. Whatever the goal is, it reflects something we want to do differently.) By late January, many resolutions are often broken and people fall back into their habits.

Why?

Well, there are a number of reasons. Setting a resolution creates a wonderful intention for the coming year, yet does it lay the proper foundation?

This year Julie and I decided to team up to offer you simple ways to turn your New Year’s resolution into your reality each Wednesday in a series of blog posts. In this weekly series, we will share proven techniques backed by neuroscience that can help change your mindset by taking advantage of the recent revelation that the brain is neuroplastic: we can change our thought patterns permanently.

Our passion is helping people who want to help themselves. And of course, it all begins with you. No one can make you go the gym, start your day earlier, or find extra discipline to save for your child’s college fund. It’s up to you to work your plan.

So, first things first, what do you really want?

This is a question you may have never fully entertained. The first time John was asked this question, it took him back. “Is it okay to ask for what I really want?”

Yes! Yes, it’s okay to ask for what you really want. It’s not only okay, it’s necessary.

And, it’s challenging. Think about it again. What do you really want?

For some it may be obvious. For others, it may take more pondering. We encourage each of you to search deeply within yourselves to learn what it is you truly want. Whether it comes instantly or requires your deep probing, when you discover it, you will know.

At that point, we can move into the next stage...Setting Your Intention

We will share more on Intention Setting next Wednesday. If you want some individual guidance to help discover what you truly want or simply cannot wait until next week, feel free to reach out to either of us. We love getting direct messages from readers. We are here to help you.
